- <p> When Suzanne Vega's new album, Days of Open Hand, appears
- in record stores later this month, the songs will, she says,
- "give a sense of resolving the past and looking to the future."
- Exhausted after her hugely successful album Solitude Standing
- in 1987, the singer-songwriter, 30, took time off and "spent
- a lot of time sleeping" before starting to write music again.
- She also discovered missing pieces from her past through a
- reunion with the father she had last seen when she was three.
- "I never knew there was such musical ability in my family,"
- says Vega, who learned that a grandmother had been a drummer
- in an all-woman band.
